《理工专业通用学术英语（拓展篇）》是从通俗化学术语篇能力培养向专业学术语篇能力培养的过渡与拓展，为学生理解英文原版教材、研究报告、英语授课或讲座打下基础。为了集中对这些语类的共核特征教学，本册的教学内容优化为理工专业学术语篇构建中的九个主要模块：专业术语定义、技术概况、公式与符号、图表、技术系统构造、分类、工作原理与流程、技术特征与性能、实验过程．熟悉这些语篇构建模块既有助于提高阅读理解效率和准确性，也有助于提高写作中谋篇布局的严谨性和语言使用的得体性．阅读和听力教学材料题材丰富多样，但语篇体裁和语体特征集中，便于语篇特征的强化教学和语体意识培养。
